About us
Urban Resilience Lab Barcelona
Who we are
The URLab is one of the knowledge transfer laboratories promoted by the International Urban Resilience Research Network (URNet). URNet’s mission is to advance the global urban resilience research agenda through education, both online and in-person, and by supporting local knowledge exchange platforms.
URLab Barcelona emerged as a cross-institutional, volunteer-driven, and collaborative non-profit initiative. It highlights resilience-related actions across Barcelona and aims to bridge the gap between science and practice. In a field often marked by silos, our mission is to foster cross-sector, multi-actor, and multi-scale collaboration through festivals, meet-ups, training programs, and site visits.
We bring together individuals from different institutions and organisations to align efforts and enhance urban resilience from complementary perspectives. We’re a growing and welcoming community, open to new members anytime.
Currently, our network includes voluntary collaborating members from the Urban Resilience Research Network, the Municipality of Barcelona, the Resilient Cities Network, the Polytechnic University of Catalunya Flumen Institute, the UIC Barcelona Msc in Urban Resilience for Sustainability Transformation, Natural Base Solutions , with more local partners joining soon. Non-Profit
The Urban Resilience Lab (URLab) is a non-profit organization based in Barcelona, dedicated to bridging science and practice under the mandate of the Urban Resilience Research Network (URNet).
Local Ecosystem
Its aim is to foster collaboration among organizations, institutions, stakeholders, and individuals working on resilience within the city, mapping their projects and initiatives.
Knowledge Hub
The URLab, in collaboration with URNet, explores theoretical challenges in urban resilience by organizing “pracademic” events, hosting writing workshops, and facilitating dialogue between theory and practice
Capacity Building
The URLab organizes courses and seminars (online, hybrid and in-person)
Mapping
The URLab is mapping and disseminating existing projects and initiatives across Barcelona, highlighting where, how, by whom, and why resilience efforts are taking place throughout the city.
