Cooperative La Chalmeta – Site Visit
La Chalmeta is a cooperative housing project in La Marina del Prat Vermell that explores how architecture can strengthen community, sustainability, and shared urban life.
Developed through a public initiative by the Barcelona City Council and collectively shaped by 32 resident members, the project combines affordable cooperative housing with shared spaces including coworking areas, communal kitchens, gardens, laundry facilities, and food distribution spaces.
Designed around transitions between the public, collective, and domestic spheres, the building prioritises social interaction, flexibility, healthy design, cross ventilation, and energy efficiency. A strong example of how housing can be approached not only as private space, but as shared urban infrastructure.
